Have a great life!

Have a great life!

Everyday, everywhere we go, we are surrounded by complaints. People complain about everything – the weather is a popular starting point for a conversation: in Canada, people complain about the cold; in Jamaica people complain about the heat.  We complain about the government.  We complain about people with whom we have passing interactions i.e. strangers.  We complain about those close to us – friends, children, spouses, parents.  We complain about our financial situation; our health; our fitness; our weight.  What DON”T we complain about?  It is so normal that we don’t even notice it anymore.  Indeed, what seems to be abnormal is when people DON’T complain.

What is the effect of all this complaining?    It is all negative energy.  The more we complain, the more negative energy manifests in our lives.  Indeed, complaining means that we are focusing on what we don’t want.   By focusing on it repeatedly (for of course we never complain once – it’s over and over and over) we give power to the complaint.  Why should we be surprised when the thing we are complaining about turns up in our lives over and over?

The fundamental truth is that complaining is the opposite of gratitude.  You cannot be thankful if you are complaining.  Complaining wipes out any vestiges of gratitude.  Being in a state of grace is a positive, love-based thing.  Complaining is negative and fear-based.  The more you complain, the less your life will be one of grace and joy.

It goes further – even listening and entertaining the complaints of others brings negative energy into your life by giving power to the complaint. So, perhaps you are not complaining – but are you party to someone else doing it?  If so, you are enabling the focus on the negative.

Here are a six things you can you do to stop the negative energy of complaints manifesting in your life:

  1. Stop complaining.  That’s it.  Just be present, observe yourself and stop complaining.  Stop the negative words coming out of your mouth
  2. Express gratitude.  Find something to be grateful for.  Cold day in Canada?  Be grateful that you are alive to feel the cold.  Hot day in Jamaica?  Be grateful that you are not in Canada experiencing the cold – lol
  3. Stay out of the way of complaining people!
  4. If you hear people complaining, then express your point of view – gratitude – and move on.  Do not enable the complaints of others
  5. Announce that you are on a no-complaint diet.  This will let others know your perspective, and will also enroll them in pointing out to you when you DO complain.  They become your allies in your complaint-free, grace-filled life
  6. Laugh – you can’t complain when you are laughing!!!

  1. We live in a culture of complaint. That is one of the reason why we have so many social workers, counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists. With respect to your laundry list, I find number 2 quite interesting, lol. And of course, I will complain about the other five, lol. Interesting piece !! Nuff respect !!
