Preparing to lead – The List

So many of my readers have requested “the list” to which I referred in my previous blog. I am delighted to share it. Bear in mind that it was prepared as a prelude to facilitating a workshop. However, can you see its application to the daily task of leading?
- Prepare, prepare, prepare! Being fully prepared brings confidence and puts me at ease
- Centre myself – affirm the delight of all participants
- Visualize the workshop as vibrant and exciting, where people are fully engaged and participating
- Visualize the successful conclusion of the workshop
- Give thanks for each and every participant in the workshop
- Affirm that each participant is a repository of wisdom and one who has an awesome contribution to make
- Affirm guidance for my every thought, word and deed throughout the day
- Get a good night’s sleep
- If I don’t get a good night’s sleep (it happens), I make sure to do a quick energizing routine – deep breathing, short, brisk morning walk
- Do breathing exercises in the morning – especially if time is tight
- Eat a water-rich, live, tasty breakfast
- Drink water, and bring a bottle to the workshop – add a spritz of lemon to energize!
- Allow plenty of time for travel to the venue and to set up the room before participants arrive
- Play music, sing and dance while I am setting up the room; this gets me ‘in the spirit’
- Wear something colorful, comfortable and pleasing to me, but appropriate to the workshop context
- Wear comfortable shoes; I spend a lot of time on my feet
- Go easy/avoid perfume, in case it triggers allergies
- Make friends with the venue staff – they are my team for the day!
- LAUGH! LAUGH! LAUGH!
When will you be doing a workshop in Jamaica?
