4 questions to ask to turn a disappointment into opportunity

From disappointment to joy - you choose

I was all geared up and focused on my first Free and Laughing workshop in Canada, scheduled for March 20.  On Wednesday, with a sinking feeling, I heard the program host explain that registrations were very low and they were recommending that we cancel.  Oh dear …….

Many things flooded through my mind in the few minutes of the call – from thoughts of inadequacy and guilt (I didn’t do enough, I am not competent, my message isn’t important and valued) to anger (WHY?  How dare they not register?) to resignation (Ah well … everything for a reason).  And then I made a shift – I started asking myself some empowering questions:

  1. What is this telling me?
  2. What am I learning?
  3. Where is the opportunity?
  4. What good is there in this?

At that point, I wasn’t interested in the answers – I just recognized the power of these questions.  They opened my vista to the new; they broke me out of the downward spiral of negativity; they focused me on finding the positive.  And what you seek, you will surely find.  So since then, the answers have been coming fast and furious and I now see and am tuned into even better opportunities to take my Free and Laughing message far and wide.  This even while we go back to the drawing board and reschedule the cancelled workshop.

Life is joyous and joyful when you are free!  Freedom means recognizing that you ALWAYS have a choice.   Freedom means that “within every disappointment is an appointment” – something positive and for your greater good.  Freedom means not being attached to a particular outcome.

Have you experienced a disappointment lately?  Is there something or someone htat has not met your expectations?  Well, there is no time like the present to release your grip on your expectation.  Ask  the questions I asked myself:

  1. What is this telling me?
  2. What am I learning?
  3. Where is the opportunity?
  4. What good is there in this?

And then go about your business – free and laughing – knowing that the answers will be revealed to you in magical ways!

As always, you are right on point with what I am struggling with – Thank you for opening my eyes/mind/heart/soul!

This is good advice. For my own self defense I try to avoid risk from fear of disappointment, maybe because I am not prepared to handle disappointment. Your suggestion sounds like an insurance to say go ahead follow your dreams and if you stumble check the questions.

Thanks for the advice. Lets see if I change my attitude.

Well Marguerite, As you said, the answers will be revealed in magical ways. Like we always say at home “every disappointment is for a good”, and I’ve had my fair share in the last couple months, and voila’ here you are with some new insights! thanks as always.
