Universal Life Force Energy

I participated in a Reiki training this weekend. It is something I have wanted to do for a long time, and the moment finally came yesterday. It was a beautiful experience of deliberately tuning into the universal life force energy. As I went through the day, I felt as if my upward journey is continuing as I add this powerful practice to my life.

Last night I did a treatment for my 14 year old daughter Victoria. Teen years are perhaps the most trying times in our lives, as we leave the freedom of childhood behind, and navigate our way in the world. It is a time of conflict, of contrasts, when the programming and conditioning of society starts to overtake the natural, inborn knowing of who we are of childhood. I am aware of this as I see the pendulum swings in my daughter – one minute a child, the next a budding woman, the next a tomboy, the next a – who knows?. It can be most frustrating for a parent! We are never sure what is coming next.

As I did the treatment for Victoria, I found that I settled into a place of such deep love, that frankly, I had not felt for a long time. It was a love for her as a child of God, a love for the true essence of who she is. It was a love beyond Victoria as a teenager, beyond Victoria as my daughter, beyond Victoria as Victoria. And this came to me – the essence of the universal life energy is love; that when you are giving that universal life energy, you are giving love. I felt my heart, indeed my entire body and being, totally imbued with one thing – love. I became a channel for and of this love, which was completely focused on my daughter.

She drifted off to sleep during the treatment. Her face was so beautiful, so serene, her breathing soft and gentle. She was at peace – no contrast of being a teenaged human in sight – simply a being of peace and love. I closed with a kiss – a kiss so gentle, yet suffused with the power of all the love in the entire universe, all the love that ever was, is and shall be.

And I realised that what my Reiki teacher had emphasised throughout the day was true – when you give a Reiki treatment, you get a Reiki treatment. When you channel that life force energy, that love through you, with the intention of the good of the other, you actually receive and become that life force.

As I left Victoria’s room, I was drawn to Shane’s room. I planted a soft kiss on my sleeping son’s forehead – in that kiss, in that moment, was all the love that is – not taking anything away from Victoria, or from me, but adding to the ever-expanding universe of love. When we know that love is expansive and has no limit, then we know that our only task here on this planet is to give love. And in that giving, is the receiving, and that is the being. We are love, pure and simple
