Happy anniversary Sesame Street!

This week Sesame Street celebrates its 40th anniversary!

WOW!  How time flies!  I have so many wonderful memories of Sesame Street.  Watching the video I must admit a little nostalgic tearing up!  Big Bird, Elmo, Ernie and Bert, Cookie Monster and so many others have brought hours of fun learning to children all over the world.  This show revolutionised education by making it fun to learn – singing, dancing, acting, drawing, interacting – and showed that television could be used in a very positive way!  What a concept!  It has stood the test of time!  Come to think of it, what could be more “free and laughing” than Sesame Street?

“Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?” is more than just a song – it is a reminder to us to play, have fun, enjoy life and to be children again!

I still happily sing the Alphabet Song, and one of my all-time favourite ballads is Kermit crooning “It’s not easy being green”….

Let’s make every day a sunny day that sweeps the clouds away and always be on our way to where the air is sweet!

Kool 97FM also had a GREAT feature that morning. They played songs and gave background information about the show. Yes it brought back the memories. Thanks to them, and to you, for this!

Olivene – so happy it was recognised on radio. Sesame Street is an example of how to use entertainment to educate – not just facts (alphabet, numbers) but also values. “It’s not easy being green” did a great job of sending the message that people who are “different” are people too! And the diversity of characters and guests told us that we live in a world of all shapes, colours and forms!

Oscar and Ernie are still my favourites! There is and will not be anyone to equal Jim Henson and the love he has created in the hearts of millions. Happy Anniversary my dear Sesame Street.
